Family Law covers many legal issues. The basics are back child support cases, Office of the Attorney General related issues and DNA testing cases.
What is Family Law
Rita Boyd does it all. Everything from when a child is born and whose name appears on the birth certificate, to how a person can change their name after a divorce. Rita Boyd feels privileged to be sort of “one stop shop” lawyer who can do almost anything for you if it involves children, parents, marriage, aunts, uncles, grandparents, other relatives and non-blood relations who have a close relationship with a child. Depending on your contact with a child, you may be able to ask the Court to award you visitation with a child, custody, or even adoption of the child. Conversely, the Court can terminate parental rights under the right circumstances.
Likewise, family law encompasses virtually anything having to do with money and the family. Everything from who gets to manage the child’s college fund to who has to support a disabled spouse upon divorce. The Family Law Court can and will divide everything from pots and pans to hidden bank accounts, four-wheelers to billion dollar corporations. The Court was once called upon to divide a Church among divorcing spouses who were the pastors of the Church. Sometimes you have to be very creative.
Common Family Law Cases
The most common family law cases that Rita Boyd handles are (in no particular order): Divorce, Paternity, Adoption, Modification of Prior Orders, Enforcement of Prior Orders – Child Support, Property, Alimony, Protective Orders in cases of abuse or neglect, mediation, arbitration, and collaborative law cases. Some of the less common cases are: Registration of Foreign Decrees, Writs of Habeas Corpus/Attachment, Qualified Domestic Relations Orders (division of retirements), Motions to Lift Levies or Garnishment of Bank Accounts (Office of the Attorney General cases), Motion to Discontinue Wage Withholding, Collection of Judgments. Collection of Child Support upon the Death of the Payor.
